For this Tenth Sunday after Pentecost, we continue our journey with Jesus and his disciples through the Gospel of Matthew and respond to Jesus’ call to discipleship. In today’s reading from Matthew, we hear the familiar story of the disciples in a boat caught in a fearful storm on the sea. Jesus comes to the disciples and says: “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.” Amid the storms of life, we gather to seek the calm presence of Christ while dealing with our fears and the turbulence around us. Through worship, scripture, and community, God grants us peace and sends us forth to be a sign of God’s presence to others. How have you experienced Jesus while dealing with the storms of life?
