ONE WORSHIP Service today @ 10am

Jesus’ warning to would-be followers doesn’t sound very attractive! “Carry the cross,” he says in today’s Gospel reading. What? Make you the most important thing in my life, Jesus? Put you at the center of my being? But, I’ve got all this cool stuff! I have all these great plans for my life!

ONE WORSHIP SERVICE TODAY @ 10am – God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday – join us as we serve our neighbors today!

Yeah, it sounds grim – in human terms. So let’s look at the spiritual terms. Our Old Testament reading sheds some light on that. In that story, God gives his people a choice. They are poised at the banks of the Promised Land after wandering for 40 years. But, they still have to decide: Who will they follow? What will they put at the center of their lives? God sketches out the options: Life and prosperity – if we follow God, and carry the cross of Jesus and God’s love for all humanity. Or, we can follow the false gods of this world, and we get death and adversity.

At Peace Lutheran Church, we gather each Sunday in worship and equip ourselves to carry the cross of Jesus. We know God helps us with that! God welcomes us and promises to strengthen and inspire us. Then, we go out and do our best, Monday through Saturday, to show God’s love to others.

Jesus told the crowds, “Whoever does not carry the cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” – Luke 14:25-33

Great Giver of all that is good in life, help us to carry the cross of Jesus, Amen.

Today at Peace – Carry the cross of Jesus!

Sunday School

We will resume Sunday School classes on Sept. 15 with an Ice Cream Party! (because God’s love is sweet…)

Youth @ PEACE is our all-ages Bible study, where young disciples learn the core stories of our faith and what it means to walk the Jesus Path. We welcome all who yearn to learn about our loving, gracious Creator.

Toddlers & babies

Kids in church: PLEASE bring your young children to church! Their fussing and squealing may pain you, but they make us glad! Pick up an activity bag as you go into the Sanctuary (on the left in a basket, ask an usher). During the sermon, you can take your kids to our Nursery; a speaker is turned on so you can hear the sermon and follow the service.

Toddler Time: If you’re interested in our special Sunday School program for the tiniest of disciples, call (530) 575-6132.  https://www.wearesparkhouse.org/store/category/286879/Frolic-Nursery

Your spiritual growth –God’s Spirit helps us carry the cross!

We would love to grow spiritually with you!

Like natural seasons, our church seasons have a special meaning for our spiritual lives.
We are now in the Time After Pentecost. For the next several months, we read stories about what it means to live our lives as God’s People. We think about what it means to be part of the Kingdom of God, here and now!

Thank you, God for sending your Holy Spirit – who fills me with the strength to tell the world of your love! Amen.
