Jesus proclaims: ‘My good news is for everyone!’

God knows you personally, and his Good News embraces you! Does that mean God’s people face an always-easy path? Well, even Jesus got run out of his own home town!

Jesus told them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” – Luke 4:21

Today, we learn that God reaches out to the people we might think of as outsiders. God’s mercy knows no limits! Even when the “nice people” want to limit it, God’s circle of love just keeps expanding. And, once we start walking the Good News path, God starts using us to bring others along, too.

If you feel like the outsider, the person who might not “belong” in church, please think again! The job of the church-folk is to welcome you to into a community of faith. God’s Good News belongs to all people!

God of welcoming, please help us at PEACE Lutheran Church to welcome all people – especially outsiders – into the Good News of your lavish love. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Today at Peace

ONE WORSHIP SERVICE @ 10 a.m. – On the first Sunday each month, we combine our two worship services into one big family event.

Souper Bowl of Caring – Before and after the worship service, Youth @ PEACE will stand just outside the Sanctuary to collect donations of cash and nonperishable food. We’ll take everything to our local Interfaith Food Ministry. This event coordinates with Souper Bowl of Caring efforts across the country, all to support local food pantries. Help us tackle hunger!

Congregational Lunch & Annual Meeting – 11:15 a.m., right after worship. Please share a light lunch with us! After dining, we discuss the 2019 budget, elect new council members and discuss other church matters – all as one body in Christ.

Today’s Bible readings: Jeremiah 1:4-10; Psalm 71:1-6; 1 Corinthians 13:1-13; Luke 4:21-30. Read them here.

Officiating: The Rev. Bill Wong. We are so happy to have Pastor Wong as our interim pastor while we transition to a new, settled pastor.

Need pastoral care? Please call the office at (530) 273-9631. Our office opens Monday through Thursday, 8:30am-3:30pm; closed for lunch 12-1pm.

Sunday School

TODAY – We meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Narthex to receive Souper Bowl of Caring donations. After worship, we will count what was received and report out to the congregational meeting.

Most other Sundays, meet at 9:45 a.m. in the Game Room (near the Fellowship Center). After a little fussbol, we move to our Youth & Family Lounge for a Sunday School lesson. TODAY: Did you know that Jesus was once 12 years old, too?

Youth @ PEACE is our all-ages Bible study, where young disciples learn the core stories of our faith and what it means to walk the Jesus Path. We welcome all who yearn to learn about our loving, gracious Creator.

Toddlers & babies

Kids in church: PLEASE bring your young children to church! Their fussing and squealing may pain you, but they make us glad! Pick up an activity bag as you go into the Sanctuary (on the left in a basket, ask an usher). During the sermon, you can take your kids to our Nursery; a speaker is turned on so you can hear the sermon and follow the service.

Toddler Time: If you’re interested in our special Sunday School program for the tiniest of disciples, call (530) 575-6132.

Coming up at PEACE

Your spiritual growth

Like natural seasons, our church seasons have a special meaning for our spiritual lives. For us, we now observe the season of Epiphany. During this spiritual season, we read stories that reveal Jesus as the Son of God and the Anointed One who mends this broken world. We would love to grow spiritually with you!
