‘Advent’ means ‘God is drawing near’!

10 a.m. worship today – ONE SERVICE ONLY!

When we watch for God-signs, we start noticing all kinds of things. Like, it’s hard to wait. Hard to trust. Where is God, anyway?

Jesus told his friends, “When these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” – Luke 21:28

Jesus tells us to watch and to keep praying about it. So, we ask God to help us with patience and strength. Then, as we watch and pray, we start noticing things. Little things. A kind word. A “lucky” break. A calmer attitude. We start to see signs of God’s Kingdom, a kingdom of deep, devoted love for God and for each other. We see God’s Kingdom right here and right now, right in Nevada County. Amazing!

Today, we start the season of Advent. The word comes from Latin roots that mean “to come near.” We watch for signs that our loving, embracing, all-providing Creator comes near to us. The form he takes? A little child, born in a stable! Advent is the time we prepare for the arrival of the Christ, God’s Anointed One.

At PEACE Lutheran Church, we believe God calls each of us to watch, pray and look for signs of God’s Kingdom breaking into the world here and now. We have a role to play in bringing that kingdom to life, by loving and praising God, and by loving and helping our neighbors. We invite you to give praise and thanks to God with us, at today’s 10 a.m. worship services!

Embracing, guiding God, please give me patience, strength and trust, so that I watch for you and wait for you – no matter what happens! Amen.

Toddlers & babies

Kids in church: PLEASE bring your young children to church! Their fussing and squealing may pain you, but they make us glad! Pick up an activity bag as you go into the Sanctuary (on the left in a basket, ask an usher). During the sermon, you can take your kids to our Nursery; a speaker is turned on so you can hear the sermon and follow the service.

We would love to grow spiritually with you!
