Encounters with the Risen Jesus bring us face-to-face with our mistakes

Text: John 21:1-19; Third Sunday of Easter

Jesus’ closest followers made more than their share of mistakes. Yet, Jesus showed them an all-forgiving love as he called them to ever-deeper service in the Way.

The risen Jesus offered breakfast to his followers on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. There, he called Peter to a life of leadership in the new church, despite Peter’s denial of Jesus just a few days earlier.

Later, Jesus appeared to Saul, a fervent persecutor of the Believers. God’s love washed over Saul and gave him a new vocation as Paul, the great evangelist.

Surely, with all your mistakes, Jesus can find a job for you!

Prayer of the Day

We offer you this prayer from our daily lectionary:

Eternal and all-merciful God, with all the angels and all the saints, we laud your majesty and might. By the resurrection of your Son, show yourself to us and inspire us to follow Jesus. We hail him as the Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, oe God, now and forever. Amen.
