For this Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost, we continue our journey with Jesus and his disciples through the Gospel of Matthew and respond to Jesus’ call to discipleship. In today’s reading from Matthew, Peter asks Jesus a question about forgiveness. The reality is that we do sin against one another, and Jesus’ challenge that we forgive seventy-seven times reveals God’s boundless mercy. When we hear the words of forgiveness in worship and sign ourselves with the cross, we are renewed in baptism to be signs of reconciliation in the world. In what ways have you received forgiveness? How do you respond to Jesus’ challenge to forgive?
