Participating churches are PEACE Lutheran, Grass Valley United Methodist and Emmanuel Episcopal, all in Grass Valley, and Nevada City United Methodist. We have been working together for more than two decades to provide fun, faith-based summer programs for local children. Organizers have decades of experience teaching in the public schools and running faith-based day camps for children.

At Rolling River Day Camp, Jesus rides with me!

Through music, science, storytelling, crafts and recreation, children will learn about our local waterways in western Nevada County. In addition, they learn how God calls and blesses us through water. God’s son, Jesus, rides with us and guides us as we care for each other and our Earth.

Rolling River Day Camp builds on four previous years of summer fun with an environmental theme. Our program links God’s love for us to God’s call that we care for each other and God’s world. We teach children that God wants all of us to be good stewards of Sacred Creation.

A verse from the prophet Isaiah inspires the theme: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” The program also will include a water-related service project.

Cost is $20 per child, and $5 for each additional child in a family. Ask about a scholarship – no child will be turned away! Cost includes a healthy snack and recreation time.

The program is organized by four local churches and operated at Grass Valley United Methodist Church, 236 S. Church St. It runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Thursday during the third week in July.

Hand Chimes, “River Guides”

The theme of water will continue to flow through Rolling River Day Camp, offered by several area faith communities July 16-19 at the Grass Valley United Methodist Church. In previous years, the camp service project included raising money to fund the building of wells in developing countries.

Rolling River Day Camp offers age-appropriate sessions for children ages 4 through entering 6th grade. Older children are encouraged to return as “river guides” helping in the classrooms.

A free program teaching hand chimes follows the day camp from 12 to 12:30 p.m. daily at the church. It’s a great way to learn to play a musical instrument on the very first day – even without any prior musical experience!

A family program highlighting the children’s projects, crafts and music concludes the camp at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the church. Healthy snacks, baked goods and beverages will be served.

Rolling River Day Camp is our multi-church Vacation Bible School program – or VBS. We offer this faith-based summer camp every year. We hope you’ll come!
