God calls us — especially in scary times!

God’s people lived in scary times back then. We live in scary times, too! No, God doesn’t make it all go away. But God’s Holy Spirit guides us through chaos and fear. Will we choose to follow that Spirit? Let God embrace us? Or will we allow ourselves to be blown about by the crazy-making winds of this world?

Jesus said to his followers, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs.” – Mark 13:8

Jesus warned his friends not to be led astray by the chaos and fear. We, too, so easily let our fear lead us away from God. But the Bible assures us, again and again, that “he who has promised is faithful.” That’s especially true when the world gets scary! So, we can “hold fast to the confession of our hope” (Hebrews 10:25) – meaning, hang on tight to our belief that Jesus walks with us through the chaos. God never, ever, ever lets us go!

At PEACE Lutheran Church, we believe God invites everyone – even you – into the safety and warmth of his loving embrace! Amid the world’s scary news, we look to God’s promises, revealed to us in the Bible and in our community of worship and love. We invite you to give praise and thanks to God with us, at today’s 8:30 & 11 a.m. worship services!

Embracing, guiding God, restore my hope that you are in charge, despite the chaos of this world and the fear it inspires. Please keep me strong in you, and help me strengthen others, to your glory! Amen.

Today at Peace

Today’s Bible readings: Daniel 12:1-3; Psalm 16; Hebrews 10:11-25; Mark 13:1-8. Read them here.

Preaching today: The Rev. Bill Wong. We are so happy to receive Pastor Wong as our interim pastor while we transition to a new, settled pastor.

Coffee Fellowship: After each worship service, please head down the hall to our Fellowship Center for coffee and baked goods.

Sunday School

We meet from 9:45-10:45am Sunday. Start in the new Game Room, down the hall from the Fellowship Center. At 10am, we shift to the new Youth-Family Lounge for class.

We are hanging out in the wilderness with the Children of Israel – what a bunch of whiners! But the wilderness is God’s-People Boot Camp. What are the lessons we can learn from wandering?

Youth @ PEACE is our all-ages Bible study, where young disciples learn the core stories of our faith and what it means to walk the Jesus Path. We welcome all who yearn to learn about our loving, gracious Creator.

Toddlers & babies

Kids in church: PLEASE bring your young children to church! Their fussing and squealing may pain you, but they make us glad! Pick up an activity bag as you go into the Sanctuary (on the left in a basket, ask an usher). During the sermon, you can take your kids to our Nursery; a speaker is turned on so you can hear the sermon and follow the service.

Toddler Time: If you’re interested in our special Sunday School program for the tiniest of disciples, call (530) 575-6132 for information. It’s available starting in the fall.
