Is life tossing you about?

It’s easy to feel swamped. Job, family, relationships, bills, repairs to vehicle or home, politics, the weather – they can seem beyond our ability to control.

Here’s the good news: They are! That’s because God is in control, not us.

Jesus calms the storm

In today’s Bible lesson, Jesus’ disciples were terrified of being swamped – literally! Their boat was being tossed by potentially deadly waves. Yet Jesus just laid there, asleep. Do we ever feel like God might be asleep during our crises?

So this Jesus finally gets up, tells the wind to knock it off – it does – and then turns to his best friends. “Seriously?” Jesus asks them. “You’ve been with me all this time, seen me do all these miracles, and you still don’t get it?”

What a relief to serve the God who is in control! During worship this Sunday at PEACE Lutheran Church, our God reminds us that there is no storm we can experience that God cannot overcome. Jesus calmed the waters – and he overcame death itself. May his power transform you today!

Today’s Bible Readings: Job 38:1-11; Psalm 107:1-3, 23-32; 2 Corinthians 6:1-13; Mark 4:35-41

“(Jesus) rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still” Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm.” — Mark 4:39
