Happy 60th anniversary Peace: Celebrating 60 years of sharing God’s love with the community.

On Saturday, June 29th, Peace Lutheran Church of Grass Valley held a celebration of 60 years in this community – for this community! The whole town was invited to join in the fun.

Church members served up plenty of hot dogs and ice cream for everyone in the beautiful and COOL Fellowship Center. There were games for adults and kids and the Peacemakers Quilt Ministry provided a show of some of the many quilts made this year for donation. There were tables with information on the many ways Peace contributes to the community, such as Interfaith Food Ministry and Hospitality House, as well as across the world with the Rwanda Connection.

A highlight of the event was a very special concert by the musicians at Peace. Not only did the Bells of Peace ring out – Marge Shasberger, their director, gave a fascinating talk on the origin of handbells and led a demonstration. Anne Vaaler, local teacher, vocalist and Director of the Peace Choir, directed the choir in three stirring pieces.

Walt Strony, Peace organist and Artistic Director for Arts@Peace gave a fascinating “tour” of the Allen Organ which was built exclusively for Peace. It carries the latest in organ technology, being the first of its kind in the West. Walt’s presentation also included an explanation and demonstration of the organ’s pipes. After answering questions, Walt treated the guests to goosebumps with a thrilling Andrew Lloyd Webber medley from the longest running Broadway show, Phantom of the Opera.
