Jesus talked about giving the emperor what belongs to the emperor, and to God what belongs to God, but didn’t provide any detail what that actually means. There are no easy answers.
The ‘good news’ are sometimes a bit hidden in the stories Jesus told. Today we find the good news in the middle of the self-made consequences that we face, if we reject God’s invitation to be part of God’s reign of mercy. God’s Kingdom will prevail. And all are invited to be part of it.
God is grace. And yet, there are consequences to believe in God and Jesus, God’s son. How does your life reflect the generous mercy of God?
Jesus’s message of God’s unconditional love and grace towards all people, even those who do bad things, is challenging our understanding of justice.
The quote, ‘life is not fair, get used to it’, isn’t particularly helpful to deal with difficult times. And many experience times when God doesn’t seem to be fair either. True, God isn’t fair, but God is merciful and gracious way beyond and above any fairness.
