A collaborative of Nevada County’s sterling professional musicians donated their varied talents to provide an exceptional concert on Sunday, February 2nd, at Peace Lutheran Church to raise funds for those devastated by the ferocious LA fires. Concerts with many performers, genres of music and set changes can take months to arrange and coordinate. Due to the urgency and extent of need, Walt Strony, Peace organist and artistic advisor for Arts@Peace – a committee of Peace Lutheran Church, jumped into action. With the assistance of Anne Vaaler, voice instruc-tor and Peace Choir and Music Director, a stunning, varied concert was created in a few weeks. Even with some publicity challenges and nasty weather, concert-goers turned out to enjoy everything from and including the Grass Valley Male Voice Choir, bluegrass, Neil Young sung by a female trio, a classical pianist and violinist, a folk duo, Thom Greathouse – Music Director for Emmanuel Episopal – a vocalist/pianist with a cabaret style; and of course, Walt Strony, known around the world, with a tremendous finale on the Paul Perry Memorial Organ. And those who attended were very generous in their giving. In two hours $6,300 was raised! And it is not too late to support our fellow Californians; Peace is still receiving donations. All funds received will be sent to Lutheran Disaster Response already working tirelessly in the area. Checks may be made out to Peace Lu-theran Church – Memo: LA Fires. You may also donate at the Church Website shown below (“Donate Op-tions” – “Give to Lutheran World Relief” – Memo “LA Fires.” Call the office for assistance, if needed. Lu-theran Disaster Response is part of Lutheran World Relief and all funds received will go directly to benefit the victims. Peace and Lutheran Disaster Response thank all for their generosity in giving of both their talents and means.
