Celebrating MEF Sunday

A Legacy of Giving and Service
On May 17, Peace Lutheran Church will celebrate MEF Sunday, a day dedicated to honoring the mission and impact of the Peace Lutheran Mission Endowment Fund (MEF). Our guest speaker, Allison Bischofberger, Director of Community Beyond Violence, will give a short talk during worship.
Founded in 1997 as a simple idea with nothing in the bank, MEF has grown into a permanent, thriving source of funding, ensuring that our mission of faith and service continues for generations to come. Unlike other charitable funds, the principal of MEF is preserved. Only the income generated from the fund is used for grants. This approach allows MEF to remain sustainable and provide ongoing support to nonprofit organizations that reflect our church’s commitment to compassion and outreach.
Through the generosity of our congregation, over the past 29 years MEF has granted over $110,000 of investment income to many organizations, such as Interfaith Food Ministry, Hospitality House, Habitat for Humanity, Child Advocates of Nevada County, Community Beyond Violence, and various Lutheran Disaster Relief programs, bringing aid to communities facing crisis. MEF has also provided funds to individuals in our congregation for faith related scholarships and educational pursuits. Each grant has touched lives, uplifted communities, and carried forth the values of service and generosity that define our faith.
On this special day, the MEF Board extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have contributed to the fund over the years. Your gifts have sustained a legacy of hope and action. We also encourage continued giving, knowing that every donation—whether large or small—strengthens our outreach and makes a lasting difference. Thank you for being part of this legacy of faith and service!
