In Jesus day, a wedding was a wedding too. After the “engagement” there was a formal religious ceremony in the bride’s home. After that was all over, there was the wedding banquet (feast), generally at night, at the house of the groom. It generally lasted seven days and could take place right after the ceremony or weeks later.

About 25 years ago (from 1984 – 1995 to be exact) there was a Television Series titled “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”. The series satisfied some human curiosity, but didn’t have anything to do with the everyday lives of ordinary people. All Saints Sunday honors the lives of everyday people, God’s people.

I was also ‘drug’ to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents.

The King Has You Covered!

By the time this part of the Pentecost season rolls around we start to hear a fair amount of “Kingdom” language. We are reading those parts of the Jesus story from Jesus’ last days on earth. At the end of Jesus’ ministry, the focus and attention had turned to his own death. Using stories and parables, Jesus paints pictures of a vision for God’s perfect Kingdom and God’s eternal reign.
