FREE SILENT MOVIE WITH WALT STRONY AT THE THEATRE ORGAN
SUNDAY, JANUARY 18, 2026
Peace Lutheran Church once again invites you to spend an afternoon of fun enjoying a silent film as if you were back in the roaring 20’s. Dress up if you like and enjoy My Best Girl, a 1927 American silent romantic comedy film starring and produced by silent movie star Mary Pickford. The film also stars Charles “Buddy” Rogers who 10 years later married Pickford.
The story surrounds the blossoming relationship between Maggie Johnson (Pickford), a stockgirl at the Merrill Department Store, and a stockboy at that store with the assumed name of Joe Grant (Rogers). Filled with crazy relatives, well-off relatives, pretense and close calls, the film was adapted from a story by Kathleen Norris and Charles Rosher was nominated for an Academy Award for his cinematography on the film. Movie production before sound relied on a live organist playing dramatic background music and sound effects. The score will be written and performed live by Walt Strony, Peace organist and artistic advisor for Arts@Peace. He will be using the Peace Allen-Reuter organ which has a special “suite” of sounds reproducing the sound of the Mighty Wurlitzer organs that were originally used to accompany silent films. A wine and cheese reception will follow the film showing.
Doors will open at 3:30 pm.
Donations to Arts@Peace to bring more events will be welcomed.
