Friday, September 19, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
The conversations will be about our values and ideals that influence our way of life and the way we orient ourselves politically. Initially we will NOT discuss current political events, even if it might be difficult to keep them out of our conversation. However, after an initial round we might broaden our conversation and share why we see things like immigration, law and order, climate change and others differently. Not to prove the others wrong, but to hear other opinions and to hopefully learn that the people on the other side of the spectrum are not “lunatics” or “fascists”, but people who think differently.
I hope that we can develop a new curiosity beyond judging others without knowing exactly why they think the way they do. There will be clear (and strict) rules of engagement which are based on the Holy Manners Covenant Peace Lutheran agreed on several years ago during a similar tumultuous time. I will be facilitating these conversations. This will not be easy. It will take some effort from everyone to restrain from correcting others, from judging, from head shaking and frowning, but it could also be the beginning of real healing among us. And it could lead to a better understanding of those on the other “side”. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do so in the hallway in front of the offices.
Please understand that the participation is limited to the members and friends of PLC who worship here regularly.
