Lenten topc: Areas of Lutheran-Catholic Agreement

Come for breakfast and fellowship – leave blessed! Continue your Lenten reflection during this season with a special consideration of this year’s observance of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

In 1517, German Catholic theologian, professor and reformer Martin Luther brought up 95 areas of disagreement with the practices of the Catholic Church. Today’s unique event highlights the efforts between Lutheran and Catholic Christians in the last 50 years to find areas of agreement in our faith.

The Rev. Jason Bense will speak about the Lutheran-Catholic “Declaration on The Way.” The “Declaration” includes 32 consensus statements in which Catholics and Lutherans already have said they have no church-dividing differences. Pastor Bense leads Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Sacramento and Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Carmichael.

We will serve a continental breakfast. Pastor Eileen Smith Le Van, of PEACE Lutheran, will lead Lenten devotions before Pastor Bense takes the podium.

Cost is $10. Please make a reservation by Sunday, March 19, by contacting Brian Smith at (530) 723-6481 or brian.smith.rfd at gmail.com
