Eat your fill of God’s bread here!

Bread plays both a real and a symbolic role in two stories today. In the first, the prophet Elisha feeds 100 people with 20 loaves of barley and a sack of fresh grain. In the second, Jesus – God’s own Son! – feeds 5,000 people with even less: three loaves of barley and two dried fish. In both cases, people ate their fill, yet left-overs remained.

Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them. – John 6:11

In both stories, the people felt a physical hunger and also a spiritual yearning. Each time, God’s messenger promised abundance despite the appearance of lack. It’s not a coincidence that, in both stories, the food came as a gift brought by someone in the crowd. The givers each gave what they could to the man from God, despite the gift’s seeming inadequacy.

But God amazes! Each time, our gracious and loving Parent takes what we give – sincerely, joyfully, trustingly – and multiplies it beyond anything we can imagine!

Will you let God feed you? At PEACE, we look to Jesus as our bread as we grow in faith together. Check us out at 8:30 or 11 a.m. worship service this morning! (We hope you’ll stay for coffee and baked goodies!)

Gracious, loving God, feed me! I want to eat your mysterious, amazing, miraculous bread! Help me – lead me – feed me! Amen.

Your spiritual growth

Like natural seasons, our church seasons have a special meaning for our spiritual lives. For us, we are in “Time After Pentecost,” a season of growth – much like summer! Read about Time After Pentecost here.

Adult Bible Study

No Adult Forum during the summer months.

Sunday School

We’re on break for the summer! But we’re planning a fun trip to the South Yuba River for Aug. 19 and a family game night in September. Stay tuned for details!

Youth @ PEACE is our all-ages Bible study, where young disciples learn the core stories of our faith and what it means to walk the Jesus Path. We welcome all who yearn to learn about our loving, gracious Creator.

Toddlers & babies

Kids in church: PLEASE bring your young children to church! Their fussing and squealing may pain you, but they make us glad! Pick up an activity bag as you go into the Sanctuary (on the left in a basket, ask an usher). During the sermon, you can take your kids to our Nursery; a speaker is turned on so you can hear the sermon and follow the service.

Toddler Time: If you’re interested in our special Sunday School program for the tiniest of disciples, call (530) 575-6132 for information. It’s available starting in the fall.
