You have to be dead before you can rise!

No matter how dead you are – in your pain, your loss, your addictions, anger, loneliness or sorrow – Jesus calls you to rise up and live.

Again and again, Jesus reaches out to the cast-out, wrecking the rules to heal the hurting. In today’s story, Jesus is walking into the town of Nain when he encounters a funeral procession. A widow has lost her only son. Now, she has no man to protect and support her.

Jesus has compassion for her, even though the religious authorities of his time would have ignored her like trash. Then Jesus breaks another taboo: He touches the platform carrying the corpse, an act that would have left him ritually unclean under Jewish custom. “Rise!” he says to the widow’s son.

Jesus is never indifferent to you! Knowing that the Lord of Life has compassion for you and calls you, will you rise up?

“Young man, I say to you, rise!” – Luke 7:14

Youth @ Peace Sunday School

Have you ever wanted something so badly that you’d be willing to do almost anything to get it? Wanting other people’s stuff and other people’s relationships – that’s what the 9th and 10th Commandments are all about. Meet @ 9:45 a.m. in the Youth Room downstairs.

Youth @ PLC is our all-ages Bible study, where young disciples learn the core stories of our faith and what it means to walk the Jesus Path. Bring your questions, doubts and challenges to God, the Bible and the Church – they are welcome here!

Bible memory verses: Kids can earn Bible Bucks for verses they memorize and redeem them for cool prizes! These days, we are working on the Lord’s Prayer and the 10 Commandments.
