Abundant love that never fails!

It’s Valentine’s Day, and while we celebrate human love today, we always are grateful for God’s abundant, lavish love that never ends and never fails us!

Jesus was God’s love-in-the-flesh, showing us how much God loves us and how God wants us to act toward God and toward each other.

“Jesus was led by the Spirit in the wilderness.” — Luke 4:1

In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus faces very human temptations as he fasts and prays in preparation for launching his ministry. Despite the tests, God’s love for his own Son is abundant and leads Jesus through the wilderness.

We are in the season of Lent – the weeks leading up to Easter. During this time, we will hear a lot about abundance and reflect on the many ways that God shows his abundant love to us.

Pastor Eileen Smith LeVan preaches today. To read more about Pastor Eileen, click here.

At PEACE, we welcome all those who are seeking abundant love in their lives – even if we don’t always recognize it, or know what to do with it when we finally see it!

Today’s Bible readings: Deuteronomy 26:1-11; Psalm 91:1-2, 9-16; Romans 10:8b-13; Luke 4:1-13

Adult Bible Study

We’re reading from the Gospel of Luke (one of four books in the New Testament telling stories about Jesus’ life). We’re using materials from Book of Faith (an initiative to help people become more knowledgeable about the Bible). Today’s theme: “And grace will lead me home,” Luke 15:1-32. Pastor Eileen Smith-LeVan will lead starting at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Old Fellowship Hall. Be sure to get your coffee and cookies first!

Youth @ Peace Sunday School

Who is my neighbor? That’s the question Jesus posed in his parable of the Good Samaritan, and we take it up today. (Like, I have to be nice to that weird kid at school??? Aaack!!!)

Youth @ PLC is our all-ages Bible study, where young disciples learn the core stories of our faith and what it means in our lives. Bring your questions, doubts and challenges to God, the Bible and the Church – they are welcome here!

Bible memory verses: Kids can earn Bible Bucks for verses they memorize and redeem them for cool prizes!

Coming up at PEACE

  • Lenten soup suppers & reflection: Every Thursday at 6 p.m., we gather for simple suppers of soup, bread and fellowship. Then, we enter God’s holy place at 7 p.m. for a beautiful prayer service. We reflect on God’s promises of abundance – and how we so often fall short in our response to his lavish, extraordinary love for us. Lent takes us on a path toward renewed life as we open our hearts ever more widely to God’s gracious gifts.
  • Adopt-a-Road: Our next opportunity is Saturday morning, Feb. 20, to spiff up our stretch of West Main Street. It’s part of our service to the community. A sign-up sheet and more info is in the Atrium (where you first come in).
